Richard Fox

Richard was born in Key West, Florida in 1947. After enduring an unremarkable childhood and adolescence he attended the University of Texas at El Paso where he discovered clay and majored in Ceramics. After graduating he established a studio in Mt. Shasta, California in 1977 and for the next twenty years he produced one-of-a-kind stoneware vessels. When the thrown form was no longer relevant his work moved into sculptural forms. Having a life-long interest in animals, he has used a variety of species in various contexts in extended series. The " Small Worlds " series was begun in 2010 and is ongoing. Richard's work has been shown nationally in galleries and museums and is in numerous private collections. While continuously maintaining a studio he has worked as a ski lift mechanic, carpenter, coffeehouse manager, and welder. Having lived in Taos, New Mexico for some years, he now lives in Mt. Shasta, California with his wife and their dog.
